      Sancta 5th Annual Full Length Play Festival Awards – February 2009

    Sancta held their 5th Annual Full Length Play Festival Award Ceremony on Saturday 21st February, hosted by actress, adjudicator, teacher Ms Hazel Bilsland–Brown and the Sancta National Chair – Mr Noel Mc Donald.

    For numerous reasons their were a lot fewer entries in 2008 and Sancta is urging groups to enter their play into this festival in 2009 and is inviting new groups and High Schools / Tertiary Education Institutions to contact us as well, to see how they can enter.

    The winners are in two categories – Musicals and Drama. Some categories were not applicable, so they haven’t been included.

    1. Margaret Wray Trophy – Special Merit Award – Musicals - Donovan Arentsen – Choreography – “Disco Inferno” – The Startime Players

    2. Best Cameo Award – Musicals – Tumelo Rakumbako – Tumelo – “Love Hurts” – Norkem Park High School

    3. Best Ensemble – Drama – Anel Natali – “The Dianalogues” – Roedean School SA

    4. Best Director – Musicals – Derrick Anderson – Love Hurts

    5. Best Director – Drama – Anel Natali – The Dianalogues

    6. Best Supporting Actress – Musicals – Mariam Lamarre - Kathy – Disco Inferno

    7. Best Supporting Actress – Drama – Emma Delius – Dolls – The Dianalogues

    8. Best Actress – Musicals – Joint tie - Jody Miles – Jane – Disco Inferno and Neli Nkambule – Kat – Love Hurts

    9. Best Actress – Drama – Charlotte Savage – Principal – The Dianalogues

    10. Best Supporting Actor – Musicals – Shannon Wai – Heathcliff – Disco Inferno

    11. Best Actor Musicals – Michael Knipe – Josh – Love Hurts

    12. Best Production Musicals – Love Hurts directed by Derrick Anderson – Norkem Park High School

    13. Best Production – Drama – The Dianalogues – directed by Anel Natali – Roedean School SA

    A final special Merit award was given to “Some Fathers Sons” written by Craig van Zyl, directed by Roy Wilkinson, acted by Craig Van Zyl, Roy Wilkinson and Gareth Lindsay of Rebel Productions.

    They have the honour and privilege of representing Sancta at the 4 yearly Festival du Mondial in Monaco in August 2009. This is the 3rd time Sancta has been chosen to participate in this International Festival, run by The International Amateur Theatre Association (IATA), under the patronage of Prince Albert and the Royal Family of Monaco. Congratulations, “Break a leg” and do SA proud!

    They will also be our entry into The Naledi Awards Community Awards Play off which should take place prior to the staging of the 2008 Naledi Award Ceremony in April 09

    The Ceremony was followed by the 29th Sancta AGM.
